Emma L. Starr

CAST
Research Associate
As a research associate at CAST, Emma contributes to research on how UDL can enhance education for all learners.
Emma earned her Master of Education degree at the Harvard Graduate School of Education in the Mind, Brain, and Education program in 2017. She graduated from Skidmore College in 2016, where she studied psychology and interned at CAST in the summers of 2013 and 2014.
Emma’s previous research has focused on topics such as how young children revise their scientific beliefs in response to new data, what mechanisms drive the eye movements of skilled adult readers, and how new technologies such as eye-tracking, physiological sensors, and motion tracking can illuminate our understanding of concepts like engagement and collaboration during learning.
Emma’s passion for applying research to education and for UDL is inspired by her experiences as a student with dyslexia. In her spare time, Emma loves to read or listen to audiobooks, go to Boston’s museums, and spend time with horses by riding or volunteering at a therapeutic riding barn for children with disabilities.
